1. Deconstructing Heat: Engagers, Dashes & Smashes
Every round, players receive an active Heat Gauge that lasts 10 seconds. You can activate Heat via a raw Heat Burst (universal armored move that gives neutral advantage) or via character-specific Heat Engagers (hits that rush you forward at +5 to +17 frame advantage). In Heat state, your attacks deal continuous chip damage on blocking opponents and unlock enhanced signature moves.
2. Plus-Frames and the Frame Trap Meta
Tekken runs at 60 FPS, meaning 1 frame equals ~16.6 milliseconds. A jab comes out in 10 frames (i10). If you land a move that leaves you at +4 on block (e.g., Jin’s Heat-enhanced Demon Paw), your opponent cannot retaliate with their fastest i10 jab before your i13 mid-strike connects. That 1-frame timing gap is a Frame Trap: if they press any button, they suffer a devastating Counter-Hit.
3. Environmental Stage Hazards: Wall Splats, Floor Blasts & Hard Breaks
Stages in Tekken 8 are weapons. Striking an opponent into a destructible wall triggers a Wall Splat, resetting their juggle state and permitting a full follow-up wall combo. Hitting opponents through glowing stage boundaries (Floor Blasts or Wall Breaks) triggers massive damage and transports both fighters into adjacent arena sectors with restored juggle scaling.
4. 3D Movement: Korean Backdash and Sidestep Discipline
Do not play Tekken like a 2D fighter. Sidestepping (tapping Up or Down on the d-pad) evades linear thrusts and straight punches completely. Memorize character weak sides: sidestep Left against the Mishimas to evade their devastating Electric Wind God Fist, and sidestep Right against Paul and Law.
