1. Managing the 6-Bar Drive Gauge & Avoiding Early Burnout
Every round starts with 6 bars of Drive Gauge. Using Drive Impact (1 bar), Drive Parry (0.5 bars), Overdrive specials (2 bars), or Drive Rush Cancels from normal attacks (3 bars) depletes your meter. If your Drive Gauge hits zero, you enter Burnout: your opponent’s normals gain +4 extra frames of advantage on block, special moves deal chip damage, and a corner Drive Impact will stun you even if you block it.
2. Reacting to Drive Impact & Corner Defense
Drive Impact has 26 frames of startup and absorbs two hits of armor. If an opponent abuses Drive Impact in neutral or the corner, you have four reliable counters: press your own Drive Impact back on reaction for a crumple punish, cancel a multi-hit normal into a Super Art, execute an instant neutral jump punish, or throw them out of startup.
3. Anti-Air Consistency & Delay Tech Against Throw Loops
Nothing stops lower-rank aggression faster than consistent anti-airs (such as crouching Heavy Punch or DP motions). On defense in the corner, practice "Delay Throw Tech": block for ~7 frames on wake-up and then input Throw. If the opponent strikes meaty, you block automatically; if they attempt a throw loop, you tech the throw safely.
