1. Power Score (PS) Bracket Discipline: The 6,999 PS and 8,999 PS Sweet Spots
Crossout matchmaking pairs you strictly by total vehicle Power Score—not player level. Slapping a high-PS Apollo IV generator and heavy Steppenwolf armor onto dual Special-tier autocannons inflates your rating into 10,500+ PS lobbies where Legendary-tier hovers and Relic Scorpion railguns will strip your guns in two volleys. Keep Special/Epic builds tightly trimmed under 6,999 PS or 8,999 PS by replacing heavy decorative bumpers and excessive ammo crates with lightweight Lunatic and Firestarter grille parts.
2. Mounting Weapons Exclusively on 90% Damage Pass-Through Grilles
The number-one mistake in Wasteland vehicle design is bolting machine guns, shotguns, or cannons onto regular structural armor plates. When a cannon shell shatters a standard 60 HP armor fender, every weapon bolted to it falls off instantly regardless of the gun’s remaining durability. Instead, mount every weapon onto 90% damage pass-through parts ("Buggy Floor", "Bumper Catch", "Gun Mount", or " Elbow" grilles) welded directly to two separate frame rails or the cabin roof. Because 90% of incoming projectile energy passes harmlessly through the grille mesh, a 140-damage hit deals only 14 damage to the mount—giving it an effective durability pool of 1,400 HP.
3. Sub-Frame Explosive Module Cages & Spaced Armor Skirts
Generators (Bootstrap, PU-1 Charge, Thor-6S, Apollo IV), ammo packs, and fuel barrels detonate catastrophically when destroyed, ripping your chassis in half. Never mount explosive modules along your upper flanks or directly behind thin side panels. Build a recessed cradle between your left and right heavy frame rails underneath the cabin floor, suspended one pin above the ground clearance of your wheels or tracks. Surround the outer wheel arches with spaced Lunatic bumpers held 3–4 pins away from the main hull so incoming Executioner or Mammoth shells detonate prematurely on the outer skirt.
